December 27th, 2016: THE Prayers of the congregation of Dalbeattie’s Christ Church are about to be answered after nearly 60 years.
Rain has been seeping into Dalbeattie’s Christ Church for decades since an extension started in the 1950s was left incomplete.
Now the roof is to be repaired after a fundraising effort finally reached the £50,000 target needed to carry out the work.
“A new east end was put on the church but they ran out of money before the tower and spiral were completed. As a result a sort of temporary flat roof was put on in 1958 or 1959, “ commented Reverend Canon David Bayne.
“It looks fine from the outside but just two years ago £20,000 was spent on fixing dry rot and other problems caused by water trickling in.”
